Front & back garden transformation

What was done

This Wymondham project was a complete front-and-back garden transformation. At the rear we removed the old concrete slabs and reworked the sloped garden, building a brick retaining wall with a step up to a smaller patio area and a new lawn behind it. We then laid a larger Indian sandstone patio with drainage and a path running round to the front of the house, with recessed grid covers set into the steps for discreet access. At the front we lifted the old lawn and replaced it with two paths and artificial grass for a low-maintenance entrance, set off against the existing block-paved and tarmac drive.

The finished look

The riven Indian sandstone has a warm, rustic tone with natural variation from slab to slab, giving the paths and patio a mellow, established feel against the red-brick house. The brick retaining wall with its banded coping neatly handles the change in level and frames the rear lawn, while the crisp triangle of artificial grass at the front sits sharply between the sandstone paths. The overall result is a tidy, practical layout that works hard front and back yet stays easy to look after.
