Smoke Grey Porcelain | Blofield Heath, Norfolk

What was done

For a couple in Blofield Heath we installed a large smoke grey porcelain patio along the rear of the bungalow, together with a connecting pathway leading down the garden. Where the ground changed level we built an oak sleeper retaining wall with a flight of porcelain-topped steps set between gravel-filled margins. Low-voltage spotlights were fitted into the sleeper risers and wall, wired so they could be controlled by remote switching. The customer had previously been told by another landscaper that good curves were not achievable in porcelain, which our team proved otherwise.

The finished look

The pale grey porcelain gives a sleek, modern surface that wraps neatly around the property and reflects the light when wet. The warm oak sleepers form a handsome contrast against the cool paving, and the integrated step lights come into their own after dark, picking out each tread and the line of the wall for a striking evening scene. It is a practical, level garden layout that also looks great lit up at night.
